Change is hard for nearly everyone. Please take a moment to acknowledge yourself for deciding that it's time to make a change in your life, and for taking the step of looking for a therapist who will support you in your journey.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
When we first meet, we will get to know each other to assure that we will have a compatible therapeutic relationship. A strong therapeutic alliance is the foundation of the therapy process. I will gather a complete history from you so that together we can develop a comprehensive treatment plan to meet your needs. If it will be beneficial for you, we can use a specialized treatment that I am trained in called EMDR. EMDR is one of multiple modalities that I utilize, but unlike the other therapeutic interventions, EMDR requires that a therapist receive specialized training and supervision prior to use with a client.
WHAT IS EMDR and how will it help?
EMDR is the acronym for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, a therapeutic modality developed by Francine Shapiro.
EMDR is an integrative treatment approach that utilizes bilateral stimulation (back and forth type movements) to reprocess emotionally charged memories. This modality will not eliminate memories of traumatic events, but will rather help your mind "digest" them so that they are no longer intrusive or impacting your day to day life.
